    PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    Member of the N.K.B.A. and a Certified  Kitchen Designer.  February 1993 to present.

    N.K.B.A. Kitchen Designer Correspondence Course completed February 1992. Passed C.K.D. exams March 26 1992

     

    DESIGN AWARDS

    Cooking Light magazine's 1996 Cooking Light Kitchens.

    Awarded one of three design contracts for Cooking Light magazine's 1996 Kitchens in the Birmingham, AL, Parade of Homes in the Trace Crossings development.  Design and presentation of finished construction of the 'Variety Kitchen' was featured in the October 1996 issue of Cooking Light.

    NKBA's Excellence in Design Competition. 1996. 

    Three kitchen design and installation projects were submitted for national judging by NKBA for excellence in design. All three designs were among 70 of 270 total entries selected for the final round of judging.

     

    CAREER EXPERIENCE

    1999 - present ~ Art by the Square Foot

    Sole Proprietor of a freelance custom drawing and design service for professional cabinet dealers, salespeople and designers. Clients from all over the continent fax floor plans or sketches to be rendered professionally for presentations. Designs and orders are checked, drawings are returned by fax and express mail, the client is charged by the page.

    Currently familiar with CraftMaid, Signature, Dacora and Kingswood cabinet lines, and I have had extensive work experience with Millspride, Kraftmaid, Schrock, Merillat, Starmark, Wellborn, Legacy, Marsh, Ultracraft, Kraftmaid, American Woodmark, Omega 'Embassy', CQC 'Brammer', St. Charles, Lescare, Plain and Fancy, Wellborn Forest Products,  St. Charles and Bertch.


    1997 - 1999 ~ Home Depot - Montgomery

    Lead  Designer (Kitchen and Bath Specialist) Originally full time, part time since birth of child in 1998

    Assist customers in product information and product sales in the kitchen, bath, electrical and plumbing areas. Consult with customers and  responsible for custom kitchen design using the 20/20 computer program.  Responsible for ordering kitchen cabinets and other special order items.  Assisted in inventory control, inventory maintenance and ordering new merchandise. Assist in training other HD sales associates in kitchen design and use of 20/20 software.  Schedule and manage custom kitchen/bath  installations between customer and HD subcontractors.


    1995 - 1997 ~ Home Quarters Warehouse

    Sales Associate (Kitchen and Bath Specialist). Part time.

    Assist customers in product information and product sales in the kitchen, bath, electrical and plumbing areas. Consult with customers and  responsible for custom kitchen design using the 20/20 and Autograph computer programs. Otherwise job description as above.


    1995 - 1997 ~ Randall Bishop Kitchen and Bath Showcase


    Design, Commissioned Sales, and Project Manager. Part time. Responsible for custom kitchen and bath design, sales,ordering, and project management  for various kitchen cabinet and top installations in new home construction and renovation projects. 


    1993 - 1995 ~ McGehee Construction dba McGehee Kitchens and Baths

    Design, Sales and Project Manager (Originally salaried, switched to commission only in 1994)

    Designed, oversaw construction, and managed a showroom displaying cabinets and related kitchen products for the company.  Designed and implemented new company logos for signs, letterhead, and business cards.
      
    Responsible for modular cabinet layout and ordering for new construction projects using Wellborn and other kitchen product lines.   Design, sales, and client relations for kitchen remodelling projects. Negotiated and executed custom drafting projects for residential renovation. Proficient in use of "Softplan" CAD system for house plans and "20/20" estimating and layout programs.

    Presented seminars on kitchen design and remodelling at Montgomery Home Builders Association home show. Designed and manned our "Travelling" display at several local Home Shows.


    1992 - 1993 ~ Jimco Inc. dba Gourmet Kitchens

    Design, Sales and Project Manager

    Responsible for cabinet design, cost estimation, sales, shop drawings, cut listing (using "Cabnetware"  software program) and project management for residential accounts (both new construction and remodelling).  Liaison between the shop foreman and the customer.

    Designed display and managed showroom in Eastbrook Shopping Center.  Member of the Eastbrook Merchants Association.  Participat­ed in developing corporate image and adver­tising program.


    1993 ~ Auburn University at Montgomery

    Instructor, Continuing Education Division

    Taught kitchen design component of AUM interior decorating course.


    1986 - 1992 ~ Crawford Kitchens Inc. dba Crawford Cabinets, Martinez, Georgia


    Sales and Design.

    Senior Designer/Estimator/Account Executive.

    Handled commercial and private client ac­counts for custom cabinet requirements in both remodelling and new construction projects. Design of kitchens, bathrooms,  entertainment centers, work stations and offices. Responsibilities included consulting with the client and

    General Contractors, implementing the project  from conception to completion (e.g., sales, designing, estimat­ing, production of shop drawings, purchasing, production follow through, installation supervision, "punch out" and collecting  the final payment. We implemented an average of 425 installa­tions a year.

    Responsible for all the commercial project estimating and developed the company into one of the major local contenders in the competitive commercial bid market. Prior to my arrival, the company only dealt with residential accounts. Projects ranged in scope from $1000 to $200,000. Jan - July 1989  Aiken Technical College Instructor, Technical Drawing. Taught Technical Drawing for the evening classes.


    1984 - 1986 ~ Thompson Design and Woodworks

    St. Charles of Augusta

    Project Manager, Designer, Draftsman.

    Originally hired as a Draftsman, promoted to Design and Project Management. Responsible for design, drafting, specification, estimat­ing, cost control, and project implementa­tion, using modular and custom built products. Became licensed for homebuilding in South Carolina to allow us to do remodell­ing business in that state.

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Computer -  Proficient in Windows, various word processing software, Cabnetware, Softplan, 20/20 and Autograph.

    Experience in drafting of house plans and renovation designs.

    Experience in desktop publishing and layout. Involved in various newsletters and advertising plans/layouts on a volunteer and freelance basis.

    Handmade and hand-painted tile, wall pieces and clay/ceramic sculpture. Successful placement of artwork in juried shows and on display in local and regional galleries.

    Artwork for T-shirts, notecards, logos, and pamphlets. Designs being used by United States Dressage Federation, Montgomery, Georgia and South Carolina Dressage and Combined Training Associations, Aiken County Humane Society, the Autauga Interfaith Care center, and Hopeland Horse Trials.
